Do the Best Recruiters in Poland need Intuition?
#Intuition #WieczorRekrutera
Over 10 years ago now a new channel appeared on YouTube in Poland, Abstrachuje TV. Within a year the boys behind the new initiative published what I still consider to be the biggest story ever about Recruitment in Poland:
780 videos later and with a following of well over 3 million Robert Pasut and the boys keep churning out the content. Think what you like of it’s level of maturity or seriousness. Millions of people approve.
Bearing in mind that there are over 40 million Polish speakers globally, more than 12% of this population have now seen Robert’s video. A truly phenomenal result. Even Elon Musk struggles to get this level of engagement!
But is what the boys at Abstrachuje doing entrepreneurialism? Is it intuition? Did they learn the algorithm? What is the secret of their success?
Having identified the most viewed Polish film related to HR in the history of the Digital world in Poland, it’s easy to smoothly move on to how Robert Pasut and the team managed to create such a large audience! If they were girls, it would be really easy to put this down as “Women’s Intuition”, but these are 3 young chaps that are miles away from being Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn. Although you don’t need to be an international celebrity to have and be able to use your inherent intuition, in this modern world of Social Media, Online Recommendations and Digital Footprints, its’ easy to overlook some of the basic prerequisites needed to be a good Recruiter online. One of which is listening to your intuition.
Many people don’t know that Robert Pasut actually worked in a recruitment business prior to making his infamous Praca film. With recruitment consultants and payroll administrators. He worked with Alexander Mann Solutions in Krakow as well, helping them with their online offerings.
Bringing Intuition to Recruitment
It’s generally a rule that learning the needs of any Customer can take some time, and Recruitment internally or externally are no exceptions.
For instance, a new HR Business Partner working at T-Mobile in Warsaw will need a good 12 months or so in order to really understand what the Hiring Managers they are responsible for really need to improve team morale as well as help provide better bottom-line returns through the right selection and development of key team members.
The same will be true of an experienced recruiter, who will need plenty time to meet with their Clients, understand the specifics of the candidates involved and develop a level of trust with all those involved in the recruitment process. If you think about it, it’s a little unfair that women have an immediate headstart on their male counterparts in the Recruitment Sector, due to their intuition. Or, at least the intuition that is often referred to as ‘women’s intuition’. But do women really make the most of this alleged headstart?
Recruitment maybe doesn’t have as big an impact on business as IT does, however companies such as Hays, Randstad, Manpower and Adecco are global power-houses and the majority of their teams will be women. Are these women using their intuition enough?
The shark-infested pool of a recruitment market
It may not be common knowledge in the market, but just like any other industry, the Recruitment industry suffers from aggressive head-hunting practices between recruitment companies. This is coupled with internal HR teams approaching promising recruitment leaders and recruiters from recruitment agencies too. It’s an occupational hazard, one that isn’t necessarily good for either the recruitment industry or the wider market itself. Especially as recruiters need to be role models, and this can be challenging as many of the recruiters active in Poland today are still very young.
When, as a recruiter you sometimes spend more time with Hiring Managers than you do with your own Managing Director, it can be hard to work out where your loytalties lie. Recruiters all know of eachother and sometimes show a grudging respect to their competitors. Yet its’ not always clear whether a move to a different agency or an in-house recruitment team will allow a recruiter to fully utilize their intuition, creativity and inter-personal skills. Whereas working for an entrepreunerial recruitment leader of an agency may be better suited for their career aspirations.
Its’ a risky business changing jobs. But its’ even more risky if you really don’t know enough about the company you are about to join.
There is a way around this though… And just like every industry sector, the best way around this is to attend industry events in order to meet people from your competition and gain a more objective view of the market.
The best place to network and meet your peers if you are in recruitment – Wieczor Rekrutera 2023
There is, for now, only one event annually where recruiters can comfortably mingle with their competitors and clients. And that is Wieczor Rekrutera – with the 13th Edition taking place on the 16th of November 2023.
Not only is this an event for presenting Awards to the best Recruiters and the best Recruitment Teams in Poland, but this is also a place for “Birds of a Feather to Flock Together”.
There is safety in numbers, and not only that, there is only one place where the most intuitive, creative, self-confident and successful recruiters in Poland coalesce. Some come to meet old friends, some to see who the best recruiters in Poland are, and some just to get out and learn a bit about networking in a less intimidating environment than the bulk of the HR industry events that they have to attend in Poland.
Some might say, that the attendees of this event are the crème-de-la-crème of the Polish Recruitment Industry. Some may suggest that these are the savviest recruiters too as they have a clear understanding of what they want and how to get there. Most importantly though, is that success attracts success, and at Wieczor Rekrutera we often have some of the most successful people in Polish Recruitment attending: Joanna Malinowska-Parzydlo, Anna Wicha, Artur Skiba, Michal Mlynarczyk and Tomasz Szpikowski just to name a few.
